Dr Norman provides comprehensive general paediatric care for children of all ages — from toddlers through to teenagers. General paediatric appointments cover the full range of medical concerns a child may face throughout childhood, assessed with the benefit of specialist training and longitudinal knowledge of your child’s history.
Haven’s model is built for continuity. Rather than seeing a different GP or specialist at each visit, families who choose Haven develop an ongoing relationship with Dr Norman — allowing for more thorough, context-aware care over time.

For Parents
What to know before you come
Everything parents need to prepare for a visit to Haven Paediatrics — from getting a referral to understanding what happens after your appointment.
Getting a Referral
A valid GP referral is required to access Medicare rebates for your specialist consultation. We recommend visiting your regular GP first — they can provide a referral addressed to Dr Erin Norman at Haven Paediatrics. The referral letter will typically include a summary of your child’s current concerns, relevant medical history, and any investigations already undertaken.
A GP referral is valid for 12 months and covers all consultations for the same condition within that period. A referral from another specialist is valid for 3 months. You are welcome to book without a referral, however Medicare rebates will not apply and the full consultation fee will be payable.
Your First Appointment
Initial consultations at Haven are 40–60 minutes long. This extended time is intentional — Dr Norman takes a thorough history and gets to know your child and your family before reaching any conclusions. You won’t feel rushed, and you’ll have time to raise every concern that has been on your mind.
During the consultation, Dr Norman will review your child’s developmental history, current concerns, relevant medical background, and family context. At the end, she will discuss her clinical impression and outline any recommended next steps — whether that’s further investigations, a follow-up appointment, or allied health referrals.
What to Bring
Please bring your child’s Personal Health Record (Blue Book), your referral letter, Medicare card, and any previous specialist reports, school letters, or therapist assessments. If your child has had recent blood tests or imaging, please bring those results too. A list of current medications including dosage is also helpful.
For developmental or behavioural appointments, school reports, previous NAPLAN results, speech pathology assessments, and any occupational therapy reports are particularly valuable. Don’t worry if you can’t gather everything — bring what you have and we’ll work with it from there.
Fees & Billing
Haven Paediatrics is a private billing practice. Consultation fees vary based on the complexity and length of the appointment. A Medicare rebate is available with a valid GP or specialist referral — you will pay the gap between the clinic fee and the Medicare rebate amount. Contact our reception team for the current fee schedule.
Payment is required on the day of your appointment via EFTPOS, credit card, or cash. We are unable to process your Medicare claim directly, but you can lodge it through the Medicare app, myGov, or at a Medicare service centre — this is usually straightforward and can be done on the same day.
Developmental Concerns
If you’re concerned about your child’s speech, language, movement, attention, behaviour, learning, or social development — a paediatric consultation is the recommended first step. Many processes, including NDIS access, ASD or ADHD diagnosis, and school support plans, begin with a paediatrician’s assessment and clinical report.
Dr Norman will take a detailed developmental history and observe your child directly during the consultation. If further formal assessment is needed — such as a multidisciplinary ASD assessment or psychoeducational testing — she will discuss the recommended pathway and refer to appropriate specialists or allied health providers.
Urgent & Emergency Care
Haven Paediatrics is a specialist outpatient clinic and is not equipped for medical emergencies. If your child is acutely unwell, having difficulty breathing, has had a seizure, or you are concerned for their immediate safety — please call 000 or go directly to your nearest emergency department.
For general health advice between appointments, call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84), which is available 24 hours a day. For non-urgent questions about your child’s care or an upcoming appointment at Haven, please contact our reception team and we’ll do our best to help.
