Dr Yaw Shing Chong is a General Paediatrician with a passion for caring for children of all ages, and a particular interest in infants and young children. He provides outpatient paediatric services at Haven Paediatrics and has worked across multiple hospitals in Southeast Queensland, including rural and regional areas. Yaw Shing takes a practical, patient-centred approach and prides himself on clear communication and collaborative decision-making, ensuring families feel supported and confident in their child's care.
A University of Queensland graduate, Yaw Shing completed his Bachelor of Biomedical Science before undertaking his medical training in Brisbane. He went on to complete specialist training in paediatrics and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP). He has gained extensive paediatric experience across rural and regional Queensland, and has also worked with the Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) team at Queensland Children's Hospital, caring for children with psychological and emotional concerns.
He has a special interest in infant health, supporting families through early concerns such as allergies, constipation, continence issues, and growth concerns including failure to thrive. Yaw Shing also has experience in the management of children with complex care needs, including genetic syndromes such as Trisomy 21 and conditions such as spina bifida.
Originally from Malaysia, Yaw Shing brings a strong understanding of culturally diverse family values and healthcare expectations into his practice. Outside of work, he enjoys building Lego and spending time with his partner and their two French Bulldogs, Louis and Freya.
